Welcome to the Coldest Classroom - a place to learn about Antarctica, its inhabitants and the importance of the coldest continent in the world.
Antarctica is pretty far away and a place that is easily forgotten. But what is happening there is actually affecting everyone on Earth. That is why our mission is to invite kids and teenagers from around the world to follow an expedition to Antarctica and together learn about this magnificent place.
We will be documenting every step of the way - from sharing how the crew keep warm, what to eat in a place with no supplies, what it takes to make an expedition like this and of course try to find all of your favourite Antarctic animals! We will talk about climate change, how everything is connected and what we together can do to take better care of our planet.

Did you know that there is land under the ice of Antarctica? That Antarctica has several active volcanos? And that there is no time zone in Antarctica?
Furthermore Antarctica is the home of more than 9000 known animal species! That counts for 46 different kind of birds, 6 types of seals and 7 Antarctic penguins. There are no trees in Antarctica but there is plenty of life.

About Laura Dekker World Sailing Foundation
Founded in 2018 by Laura Dekker and Sander Vogelenzang. Established to provide programs for young people to develop life skills like team work, self confidence, responsibility, creativity, and leadership. The challenge of expeditions in foreign lands and long distance sailing aboard our sturdy training vessel provide a uniquely powerful and extremely effective environment for the personal development of children and teenagers that come from all sorts of backgrounds.
About Apparent Winds
Building connections between humanity and nature through science and storytelling. Apparent Winds is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to operating an impactful and sustainable sailing research vessel while collecting and sharing stories of environmental and cultural preservation from around the world.
