Guppy & the frozen fronteer
About the project
The Laura Dekker World Sailing Foundation and Apparent Winds are organizing an expedition to Antarctica to create engaging, research-based educational material for children and teenagers worldwide. Recognizing that Antarctica is difficult to reach, the project aims to bring this environment to the next generation by enabling students to follow the voyage in real-time as a "crew ashore".
Mission and objectives
Educational Impact: The primary output will be a short film material focusing on Antarctica's animals, climate change, and the global impact of environmental shifts.
Engagement: The project seeks to provide hopeful, encouraging information that empowers youth to care about the planet.
Accessibility: The initiative is non-profit and inclusive, aiming to reach students regardless of income, educational level, or enrolment status.
Content and Activities: Beyond the main film, the crew will host live sessions for students, conduct "missions" to answer student questions, and create educational materials regarding navigation, biology, and environmental science.
Collaboration and funding
Non-Profit Model: This is non-profit project. We are doing this because we believe so much in its importance and everyone joining the expedition is doing it voluntarily. The project is seeking sponsors to cover essential expedition costs, such as safety gear, permits, and equipment.
Partnerships: The organizers are actively seeking support from educational institutions, brands, and organizations. Partners will receive promotional opportunities, access to educational materials, and engagement with a global following of over 214,000.
